Did you know...

Arizona and the Sonoran Desert are a bird watcher's paradise, with about 350 different species of birds! Some of our native species have spent hundreds of thousands of years evolving to become perfectly adapted to hot Desert life, like the gila woodpecker (Melanerpes uropygialis) that prefers to nest in holes made in our native saguaro cacti. We also have a number of bird species that use the Sonoran Desert as a migratory pathway, such as a variety of warblers, hummingbirds, owls, and flycatchers.

This print features a phainopepla (Phainopepla nitens), desert cardinal/pyrrhuloxia (Cardinalis sinuatus), house finch (Haemorhous mexicanus), mourning dove (Zenaida macroura), gila woodpecker (Melanerpes uropygialis), turkey vulture (Cathartes aura), vermillion flycatcher (Pyrocephalus obscurus), Anna's hummingbird (Calypte anna), verdin (Auriparus flaviceps), burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia), Gambel's quail (Callipepla gambelii), and a common nighthawk (Chordeiles minor)!
