The rosy maple moth (Dryocampa rubicunda) is a tiny moth in the family Saturnidae, which are the saturn moths or silkmoths. This species is in fact the smallest saturn moth species worldwide, with males reaching a wingspan of about 1.25-1.75 inches and females reaching a wingspan of about 1.5-2 inches. 

Like all other species in the family Saturnidae, adult moths emerge from their cocoons with no mouthparts and as a result do not eat as adults, rather subsisting off of the nutrient stores they maintained from their caterpillar stage. From caterpillar to adult moth, individuals typically only live between 2-9 months.
