The blushing phantom (Cithaerias aurorina) is a sexually dimorphic butterfly species found throughout southern Mexico, Central America, and into South America along the western coast. This specimen is a male, indicated by the vibrant pink coloration in his hindwings which are characteristic of the species. The females are a much duller, inconspicuous color, with the pink still be present but much more subtle.

These butterflies are commonly found deep in the undergrowth of the Amazon Rainforest. They are crepuscular, meaning they are most active around dawn and dusk. They feed on rotting fruit and fungi and are relatively secretive, preferring to keep to the darkest shaded portions of the rainforest floor.

This specimen is mounted in a 4"x4" light wood frame. It includes both a hook on the back for wall hanging, and an easel back so it can be stood on a shelf or mantle!

The specimen is a real preserved butterfly professionally prepared and mounted by myself. For information on ensuring your taxidermy specimen lasts a lifetime, please visit my FAQ page! For more information on my sourcing practices, please visit my Sourcing page!
