Some of our native species have spent hundreds of thousands of years evolving to become perfectly adapted to hot Desert life, like the gila woodpecker (Melanerpes uropygialis) that prefers to nest in holes made in our native saguaro cacti. We also have a number of bird species that use the Sonoran Desert as a migratory pathway, such as a variety of warblers, hummingbirds, owls, and flycatchers.

This print features a phainopepla (Phainopepla nitens), desert cardinal/pyrrhuloxia (Cardinalis sinuatus), house finch (Haemorhous mexicanus), mourning dove (Zenaida macroura), gila woodpecker (Melanerpes uropygialis), turkey vulture (Cathartes aura), vermillion flycatcher (Pyrocephalus obscurus), Anna's hummingbird (Calypte anna), verdin (Auriparus flaviceps), burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia), Gambel's quail (Callipepla gambelii), and a common nighthawk (Chordeiles minor)!

Printed on glossy photo paper with vibrant colors displaying the "Roadrunner Snack Time" design featuring a greater roadrunner with a giant desert hairy scorpion snack!

Available in both A5 (5.8" x 8.3") and A4 (8.3" x 11.7") sizes.

Did you know...

The greater roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) is a common sight in the Southwestern United States, though their native range can extend as far east as Missouri and as far south as Michoacan in Mexico.

They spend most of their time on the ground and are able to run up to 20 miles per hour, as well as being capable of limited flight.

Greater roadrunners are monogamous and mate for life, living solitary lives until they find a mate. Even more, there are approximately 83 subspecies in the United States as well!

The most distinct feature of the rattlesnake is of course their characteristic rattle, which is made up of loosely connected segments made of keratin, which is the same thing that your fingernails are made of! Baby rattlesnakes are born (they don't hatch out of eggs!) with no rattle. Despite common belief, a rattlesnake's rattle does not indicate the exact age of the individual snake - rather, each time the snake sheds a new segment is added to the rattle. This means the number of segments on a rattle can be used to roughly estimate a snakes age, but it is not a perfect method as some snakes can shed multiple times a year and parts of the rattle can even break off.

Rattlesnakes only bite to capture prey or as a form of self-defense, and in about 25% of all rattlesnake bite incidents, no venom is injected. Rattlesnakes are more scared of you than you are of them! The best way to avoid being bitten by a rattlesnake is to avoid harassing or attempting to kill them, as these instances are when most rattlesnake bites occur. Instead, contact a wildlife control company that can come safely remove and relocate the snake - that way everybody wins!
